The Olfish Dynamic Data Logger (DDL) is a touch-screen ready application that captures data in real-time and/or after the fishing activity takes place (see image below -click for larger view). The DDL can be linked to a GPS receiver and it incorporates a GIS utility for easy viewing of vessel movements and other operational fishing data.
There are two DDL versions: a vessel version, for use by vessels during fishing operations; and a shore version that allows data from many vessels to be stored and visualized together.
Numerous data entry forms and pre-populated drop down lists make data entry quick and reduces typos (see image below - click for larger view). Drop down lists are pre-populated by using the extensive Olfish database, however, if needed, new fields and values can be added. The DDL is highly customizable and it can be easily modified to address vastly different data recording and reporting needs.
The DDL includes a reporting module for the creation and mailing of reports. These include agency compliance reports, such as defined by the EU regulations (EU 1966/2002, EU 1566/2007), AFMA regulations, the NZ ministry of fisheries reporting requirements, NOAA, and other management agencies. The DDL can also compile reports required by commercial fishing companies for their own internal use. Additionally, reports can be created for other authorized data recipients such as scientists, compliance agencies, commerical users, fish markets, observers, program managers, etc. The DDL output (reports) can be in the form of normal text, CSV, XML, or even formal logsheets, as may be required by compliance authorities.
The DDL deploys an end-to-end transmission protocol that allows users to transmit secure XML reports, using X.509 digital certificates and W3C XML security standards. The DDL digitally signs and encrypts XML reports before sending it to the authorities. Documents are signed using XML signatures and encrypted using hybrid XML Encryption.
Reports can be generated by a triggered event, date/time signal or manually by the user as required. Reports can be saved, viewed, edited and resent. The user can view the reports in HTML/XML or an encrypted view before sending (see image below - click for larger view).
The DDL can integrate with virutally any of the existing communication technologies onboard fishing vessels, including: Inmarsat, Iridium, SkyMate, Boatracs, GSM/GPRS, etc. Additionally the DDL can be used to collect and report on data and vessel activities other than fishing, such as environmental, chemical or physical marine surveys.
The OLRAC company customizes each product to the customer at the time of purchase. However, users can further customize the DDL to their specific needs and preferences at any time using the DDL configuration menu. For example, the DDL is easily configured to show only relevant fields, it also allows the carry over of consistent data (such as vessel names). Certain fields can be made compulsory and the user can decide which fields should be visible and in which phase of the fishing trip the fields are displayed (for example: trip start, setting, hauling, gear used, etc.).
